I had just got back from Edinburgh when I plunged straight in to the organisations for the newly launched London Cabaret Festival. We had the most fabulous fundraiser for London’s newest festival, which celebrates the full scope of the capital’s cabaret community, at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. Mat Ricardo and I hosted together and the line up was honestly the very best and most diverse that the capital has to offer, from mime to dance, from comedy to song and from juggling to drag.

Personal highlights for me would be the amazing Lipsinkers, Des O’Connor and Mat Ricardo as well as the impromptu juggling routine from The Boy with Tape on His Face. Who knew he could juggle?

There was something for everyone and a good time was had by all. The support from the community has been phenomenal, and I think everyone was buoyed by the warmth of feeling. It is always a little daunting performing in front of your peers but such is the supportive nature of the scene and the audience were very generous in their applause. There was a lot of love in the room that night. The funds that we raised will go in to the pot to help us get the festival off the ground. At the moment, we are pretty much kept afloat by optimism and glitter but it actually takes an awful lot of lettuce to put on a festival.
This October, we’ll launch a month long celebration of all the cabaret that the capital has to offer and I can’t think of a better way to launch a festival than by celebrating everyone. We are so lucky in London to have a scene which is so bloody diverse and not only diverse but talented.

So congratulations, darlings, and let’s keep on keeping on.

Love Lili
